Welcome to my website. I document my adventures and reflections in work, family, life and everything in between. Hope you have a nice stay!
I can’t wait for 2024 to be over. Just when I thought things can’t get worse than 2023, 2024 proved to be a worse, if not one of the worst years for me. On this very last day of the year, I’m penning down some of the best and worst memories. As a reflection - and down the road - a reminder to myself the things I have experienced and overcome.
Here lists my daily weekday routine for the past few months (June to Sep 2024) - when I was actively hunting for a full-time job. This routine was true for most week days. I highly highly recommend blocking time off for undistracted productive work (arguably even more so when one is actively hunting for jobs).
Sharing across list / template of tasks and responsibilities for domestic helper. If you're getting a domestic helper for the first time or you're simply tired of repeating your instructions all the time, this template is for you.
[Using this template will save you time]
Note: This list was created for a fresh (i.e. no prior experience in Singapore) helper joining a family of 3 - Father, Mother (Mdm) and Child (2.5 years old), with Mother 3 months pregnant with 2nd child.
Feel free to use this as a template to customise for your own needs.
I have never thought I will one day write about anxiety. I always thought of myself as super positive, always seeing the bright side of things. But i am only human. And these are not usual times.
Two reasons why I’m writing this post:
To share how it’s really like for someone in my situation to be out of a job - hopefully to inspire some action for you today (as of what to do or not to do - maybe that’s for another post)
For me to document this part of my life - so that these become stories i’m gonna tell and they become reminders of what I have been through and who I really am. (inspired by Alex Hormonzi)
I will focus on are the 3 transition chapters in my career:
From banking 🏦 to laser tag 🔫
From employer to startup employee
From untimely departure to ecommerce industry in Covid19
This video was made as a presentation to students at Singapore Management University (SMU), my alma mater, as part of a wider presentation / sharing session together with my Shopify colleagues. Video was filmed on 28 Jan 2022 and presented on 31 Jan 2022. Here lies summary of the video content.
Some background and context:
My tenure at Lazada spans from Nov 20219 to Jan 2022, a little over 2 years
It’s my opinion that e-commerce is a fast-moving industry, further accelerated by factors like Covid19 and competitors’ movements in the time I was at the company
I had 2 separate roles within my tenure - 1. merchant acquisition for LazMall (a channel within Lazada) 2. business development for Lazada omnichannel solutions (details on my LinkedIn)
Internally, I worked with local and regional teams and across functions like customer care team, product & tech teams
More than 60% of my tenure was Working-from-Home (WFH)
I took some time on the research and decision-making process and ended up getting the desk which I was adamant against from the beginning. I thought I'd document the process and considerations. If you're thinking about whether to get one and/or which one to get, I hope this benefits you.

As much as 2020 is a disaster year to most by most standards, I think I have been very lucky and I count my blessings:
1. Julian and family - it really takes a village to raise a child
Despite my wife suffering a prolonged painful labor, Julian was born safe and healthy - big thanks to our experienced and skilful gynae.
Yes it almost sounds like an understatement. Besides becoming a father in 2020, how I worked, lived and played have also been very unique in 2020.
What a crazy crazy year 2020 has been. Not just for the world at large (read: COVID19, US elections, etc) but also for myself. Let’s get down to it. This is the first of 4 posts.
